across the river

Today we headed over to St Paul and spent some time down on Harriet Island. It was a great day to be outside and the girls certainly enjoyed their time in the park.

a splash of color

OK, this is the last of last weekend.

back in the day...

...that was just yesterday.

I thought this was a good Lucy and Charlie Brown shot.
Sometimes color gets in the way of a good picture, that and the fact the girls were not amused with sitting on the bench reminds me of those old time photo's where everyone had to sit still for a long period of time and no one felt compelled to hold a smile that long.

flowers and a bee...... a bee, oh my!

Sophia and Anna really enjoy being outside, so this morning we spent some time playing in the backyard. There is a lot to get into right outside our door and some of it is not so good. Like bees (or a wasp, I'm not sure which, it all played out so quickly). So here's what happened. The girls were running and crawling all over, first in the sand box filling up buckets with sand and dumping them all over themselves, then moving over to the flower bed, to throw wood chips onto the sidewalk. Then they kind of meandered about the yard while I (always looking to capture the moment) went back and forth between the two snapping pictures. While Anna was busy trying to pull a flower off a vine I turned to see what Sophia was up to when in her little cupped hands I saw the venomous yellow and black stripes. It only took a moment to realize it was a bee (or wasp) and it was very much alive. So with one swift swoop, I slapped it out of her hand and stepped on it. This was all just a bit confusing to Sophia, who just looked up at me with a bit of shock and disbelief, "What's gotten into you?" her eyes were telling me. I wish I could explain to her that bees give a painful sting but there was no need, she just shrugged it off and moved on to the next exciting adventure to be had in the yard.
