what grasshoppers eat

We found a grasshopper in the yard today and decided to keep him as our pet but when I asked the girls what a grasshopper might eat they said probably grasshopper food and fish. Well we looked it up and found that they eat all kinds of different things and have even been known to cost farmers thousands of dollars in lost crops with which they responded; "grasshoppers have money?"

Well we decided to feed him some mint leaves and chive and some other leaves we found so we'll see if he can hang around with us for a while.
