pancakes and green beans

Green beans may sound like an unusual choice for breakfast, but if they like them and eat them, we have to take advantage of that while we can. Our typical breakfast for as long as I can remember has been eggs, which haven't been going over so great lately. We've tried to mix it up by adding cheese now and then, but still the same "eggs again" response. Well the pancakes today were a big hit, Sophia thought they were great and gobbled them all up. Anna on the other hand, while I know she liked them, suspected there was something better about the pancakes I was eating. I gave her some of my pancake (that wasn't drenched in maple syrup) but she was on to me.  It wasn't long before I was giving her some bites with syrup. At first she thought it was a trick, but then she licked her lips and got a taste of maple and that was all it took. I was kind of surprised Sophia never caught on and wanted some with syrup too. She was content with the pancakes and green beans she had and what she doesn't know won't hurt her.

as good as gold...

...which is darn good these days.

This week has been a very rocky road for financial markets and one would pretty much have to be in a bubble not to have heard about all the chaos on Wall Street. Of course our girls are living in a bit of a bubble, that comes with the bliss of being a toddler and rightly so.

This morning they were not much in the mood for naps so I got them up early and they were very happy to get to watch The Price Is Right. Bob Barker or not, it's been a favorite with the girls since they were newborns (yea, last year) on account of all the bells and whistles, bright colors and crazy people jumping all around.

Today Sophia encountered her first "bully".  This afternoon Lisa took the girls to the park and all was going well. Sophia was having a great time and then she saw a "big" girl (three years old) climbing on the bars and was mesmerized and stood there watching her.  After a little while the girl walked over to Sophia and stood there for a few seconds and then she pushed her down. Sophia took a few seconds to comprehend what had happened and then burst into tears.  The big girl's father was there immediately scolding his daughter and asking her why she did that, with which she replied "I don't like her looking at me".  Apologies were made and time outs were given. Just one of what will be no doubt, many conflicts on the playground.

moving up a notch

One activity that we frequently enjoy partaking in with the girls are brisk walks around beautiful Lake Harriet. It's a good long walk and a nice way to split up the day while enjoying the great outdoors. Today as I got Anna and Sophia buckled into their stroller I noticed the straps going over their shoulders and a bit down their backs, which is a good indication that it's time to reposition those straps up a notch. It seems like yesterday when we were .... yada, yada, yada, you know what I'm going to say. They are still our baby girls and we are enjoying this time with them very much, but it certainly feels like it's moving quickly sometimes. Well our walk today was cut a bit short. When rounding the south side of the lake we were met with a few sprinkles of rain. Rather than chance it we headed back home and it was a bit drizzly most of the way. It's been very cool and rainy all weekend long but it is still good to get out for a while, I'm afraid there are only a few days like this left, before we know it there will be snow on the ground and well be having some serious cabin fever. I expect this winter will be much better than last however since the girls are getting much more mobile so I'm sure well be doing lots of playing in the snow and sledding down hills. In the mean time we are taking advantage of any opportunity we have to get outdoors. After returning from our walk the sprinkles had subsided and the girls got busy with running around the yard and getting into the neighbors rocks (pictured above). There is something about taking things from where they belong and throwing them onto the sidewalk or the grass or wherever, but if it makes them happy....
